SUPERNATURAL’s 200th Episode Will Be Musical-ish

Supernatural is heading into its tenth season on The CW, and that means they’ll be hitting the 200th episode milestone. Showrunner Jeremy Carver, Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), and Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) attended the 2014 Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour to discuss the upcoming season and touched on how they’d be celebrating the big occasion. The series has proved it’s not scared to tackle silly topics and break the fourth wall, and it looks like they’ll veer in that direction for the 200th episode.

According to E! Online, Carver said it will be fun and meta. “I think it’ll be one of the more amusing and engaging episodes we’ve done in a while. I think we can safely call this a meta episode. We’re going pretty meta. I would just describe it as something of a love letter to our fans and there will be songs.”

Songs?! A musical episode of Supernatural could be amazing. We’ve recently discussed how important classic rock is to the television series and incorporating it into an episode in a more interactive way has potential. Carver teased a few tidbits: There will potentially be dancing, and there will be more than one song. He wouldn’t comment on whether Ackles or Padalecki will sing but stated there will be original songs and covers. “There will be a little of both. It’s just going to be real fun and it’s a real celebration of the show and particularly the fans of the show.”

With another series, I’d be skeptical. But, as mentioned, Supernatural has played in the meta world before and it’s actually worked. I can’t wait to see what they have in store, and I hope there’s a sing-along act in the episode.

The 200th episode will be the fifth episode of season ten. Ready to watch Supernatural once more, with feeling? Let us know your thoughts about the upcoming musical-ish episode in the comments.
