SUPERGIRL’s James Olsen Taking on New Role from Comics and More TV News

It’s another weekday, and that means we’re all here for the latest television news. Today’s TV-Cap will tell you about a new development for Supergirl‘s James Olsen (it’s the last thing I cover so it’s easy to skip if you don’t want spoilers), a cool Supergirl easter egg, a picture of Nathan Fillion in his Modern Family role, and more.

Finding the Hero. A new trailer for Supergirl previews the episodes ahead in season two with a peek at Supergirl saving Lynda Carter’s POTUS and the big bad new villain on the block. There’s also plenty of Clark and Kara, and a shot at 50 seconds in the above video reveals an homage to the Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 cover pictured above. [IGN, Image: DC Comics]

Clear Your Schedule. The Walking Dead comes back with new episodes on October 23, and then everyone can relax and stop worrying about who Negan killed. To help distract yourself, you can glue your eyeballs to AMC because they’re airing an 88-hour marathon covering all six seasons before the season seven premiere. It kicks off on October 16 at 7:00a.m. They’re not running the marathon straight through, so visit AMC to get the complete schedule for this and other titles that will be part of their FearFest event. Forecast with Fillion. Nathan Fillion is dropping into Modern Family for a three-episode stint beginning Wednesday. He’s playing a weatherman named Rainer Shine. Best name or best? Rainer is a hero of Phil’s, and a photo from the episode shows them chumming it up. [TVLine, Image: ABC]

Barking Mad. DC’s packing a lot of characters into their upcoming four-way crossover on The CW, and you can add one more hero to the roster: Arrow’s Wild Dog. Actor Rick Gonzales tweeted the above pic of his mask alongside The Flash’s and told ComicBook.com, “Wild Dog will be in the crossover, and he has a huge dislike for metahumans.” Interesting. [CBR]

A Friendly Sitcom. Marvel’s Luke Cage is the polar opposite of a sitcom, but YouTuber Zach Ace found the handful of moments when each character laughed or smiled and created a warm and fuzzy sitcom intro a la Family Matters. Context, friends. It’s neat. [Nerdist]

Open Your Eyes. Stuck as we are in our daily routines, we can forget the vastness of the planet around us. It is startling, and it is moving. The trailer for Planet Earth II, coming soon to BBC One, is just the reminder I needed to stop and allow myself a moment of awe. [Nerdist]

Thrawn Meets Hera. Ready for more Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels? A clip from the next episode shows he’s captured Hera and knows about her history and family and oh boy, I’m getting nervous. “Hera’s Heroes” will air on October 15.

Tuesday TV. Tuesday night’s line-up is packed, as is most every weekday night now that we’re fully into fall TV. Go back and revisit what you watched and make sure you didn’t miss anything with our recaps of Scream Queens, The Flash, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Only In Your Dreams. USA’s Falling Water is premiering on October 13, but is the new drama about collective dreams worth your time? Read Alicia’s review.

Warning: I’m about to dive into that Supergirl spoiler I warned you about so stop reading now if you don’t want to know about what’s happening with James Olsen.

A Change. James Olsen is going to take on some additional responsibilities in season two of Supergirl; he’s going to start down the vigilante path as the DC Comics character Guardian. Series executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said James realizes being a photographer isn’t enough and decides to take to the streets. And he’s not telling Kara, so you know there’s potential for all kinds of drama. It sounds like the change is happening relatively soon. If you don’t know much about Guardian, Blair breaks it down for you right this way.

Are you on board with this change in direction for James? Tell me in the comments.
