Quentin Tarantino‘s films are synonymous for artistic clarity. And although he didn’t invent the technique, “The God’s Eye” a.k.a. “From Above” POV is a Tarantino staple. Check out this supercut posted on Vimeo highlighting the overall visual feast with shots filmed from above the action provide.

Used heavily throughout Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, but peppered across Tarantino’s entire filmograhy, these ‘From Above’ shots dish out the right amount of details. They allow viewers to become as all-seeing as a director might be, surveying the best of the entire set of any given scene while following certain characters on their journey for revenge or freedom.

Become omniscient as you look at the piles of bodies that are lined up before The Bride before and after the showdown at the House of Blue Leaves. Or count the stacks of cash in suitcases with various characters. Or, my personal favorite, observe the mad dash for the door during the burning of the Nazi-filled theater in Inglourious Basterds (2009).

With about a dozen other artful and strategic film techniques up his sleeves, Tarantino films are never without a certain kind of beauty and poise in the midst of captivating dialogue and violence. And now we wait for his latest film concoction, The Hateful Eight, out in theaters this December 25.
