With San Diego Comic-Con just around the corner, dozens of toy exclusives have been announced by the many exhibitors hitting the convention. As usual, we’ve seen the cool (the Hot Wheels version of James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 from Matty Collector, for example), the crazy (a plush piece of superhero poo?), and finally… the creepy. Super7 and Funko, the folks behind the Alien ReAction figures that debuted at last year’s Comic-Con, have revealed via their Facebook page, an Alien Egg Chamber ReAction Playset.
What makes this playset disturbing isn’t so much the toy itself, which is admittedly awesome. As Super7 says, “Now you can relive the excitement of the Nostromo crewâs journey into the derelict Alien spaceship! Venture with Kane deep into the mysterious Egg Chamber ReAction Playset and pose your sturdy ReAction Figures on the detailed, egg-covered base.” Yeah, that’s cool. Even cooler is the possibility that little old-school-Kenner-style Kane could soon find himself making a face-hugging, throat-inseminating friend.
No, the creepiest part is the packaging. Take a look at the seizure-like frenzy experienced by the little girl on the box as the little boy slowly moves his xenomorph figure in her direction. Granted, anyone who doesn’t wish to discover the Freudian terror of LV-426 has no business playing with a Kane action figure. But still…
Funko and Super7 are also making available at Comic-Con an Alien Deep Space Egg for $25, each of which contains a limited, secret ReAction figure with “new sculpts and colors never before seen in the Alien universe.”
Once opened, the Deep Space Egg doubles as a figure stand. Which, while still awesome, is nowhere near as weird as the Alien Egg Chamber ReAction playset, which will sell for $100 and is limited to 1 per person. But with only 250 available in its limited run, it’s well worth the price…. if only to make visitors to your home question your sanity.
