Super-Wabbit Returns in the LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES/BUG BUNNY Special (Exclusive Preview)

Despite several teases since the DC Rebirth era began last year, we’ve only had hints at the return of one of DC Comics‘ longest running and most beloved super teams of all time, the Legion of Super-Heroes, who have been AWOL for several years now. A Legion flight ring was glimpsed in the DC Rebirth Special from Geoff Johns last year, and a time-lost Saturn Girl has appeared in the pages of Batman. But there has still been no formal announcement of a proper return for the Legionnaires in their own title.

Having said that, the publisher is throwing loyal and patient Legion fans a bone, as the super teens from the far flung future are making a welcome–although probably out of continuity–return to the pages of DC Comics with the Legion of Super-Heroes/Bugs Bunny Special. Written by Green Lanterns scribe Sam Humphries, and drawn by longtime DC artist Tom Grummett, the special features the Looney Tunes icon meeting a retro version of the team, complete with old school code-names and costumes. (Yes, that means Supergirl in hot pants, just like back in the day).

Can good old Bugs Bunny get the angst ridden teens from the 31st Century to get over themselves long enough to crack a smile? And just how badly will he mock Matter-Eater Lad and Bouncing Boy?? If you’re an a fan of classic LSH stories, you’ll likely love this affectionate parody of the team.

You can check out our exclusive preview of the first five pages from The Legion of Super-Heroes/Bugs Bunny Special, together with both variant covers down below in our gallery.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“The Legion of Super-Heroes always thought they had taken their inspiration from the 21st Century’s Superboy. But when they try to bring that hero into their future time, the team discovers to their surprise the caped champion isn’t who—or even what—they expected! And the bonus Looney Tunes backup story features DC characters with story and art by Juan Ortiz! ”

The Legion of Super-Heroes/Bugs Bunny Special  is due to hit stores on Wednesday, June 14.
