SUPER MARIO Bros. 3 Soundtrack and Sound Effects Covered With a Guitar!

Super Mario Bros. 3 is unquestionably one of the greatest games in the Super Mario series, and possibly one of the greatest games of all time! It was released in Japan in 1988, but American fans had to wait until 1990 to get their hands on a game that was a remarkable step forward for the franchise. For its time, Super Mario Bros. 3 was the pinnacle of gaming quality and it still holds up remarkably well.

Steve Onotera (also known as samuraiguitarist on YouTube) has released a tribute to Super Mario Bros. 3 by creating a cover of the soundtrack and the sound effects from several stages in the first world of the game. Most of Onotera’s cover was performed with his guitar, but he also used drums, keyboards, and other instruments while lining everything up with the playthrough of Super Mario Bros. 3 that is featured in the video.

“Growing up, my siblings and I would play this game regularly in our neighbour’s basement,” wrote Onotera on his YouTube page. “Recreating this awesome soundtrack was a bit of a trek down memory lane. Hope you enjoy my take on this classic! Oh and before you comment, I know I didn’t get the whistle, go down the pipe to the coin room, hit the music block and go up into coin heaven, etc!”

Onotera is also offering his Super Mario Bros. 3 soundtrack cover on Loudr. To visit Onotera’s YouTube channel, click here!
