New STRANGER THINGS Photos, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Casting, and More TV News

Happy Valentine’s Day! If you don’t care about the holiday, then happy Tuesday! They don’t make as many greeting cards for the latter occasion, but they should. Weekday greeting cards seem like an untapped market. Anyway, today’s TV-Cap has all the latest and greatest television news for you to enjoy: fresh out of the oven Stranger Things season two photos, Star Trek: Discovery casting, a Star Wars Rebels trailer, and more.

Focus on Will. We have a handful of new photos from season two of Netflix’s Stranger Things. They feature some familiar faces: Hopper, Nancy and Jonathan, and Joyce. There’s also a new face: Sadie Sink’s Max (the redhead in the above photo). Then Will features in two the photos, and it doesn’t seem that all is well. Which is fitting, since last time we saw him he was coughing up slugs–it’s never a sign of anything good. Why must the Halloween premiere be so far away? You can view all the new pics and get the latest details in our Everything We Know About Stranger Things Season 2 So Far article. [Variety, Image: Netflix]

The Devil Wins. Fox is a fan of the devil–the devil portrayed by Tom Ellis, that is. They’ve renewed Lucifer for season three before season two returns from its midseason break. [IGN]

A Tease and Memories. The end of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries is rapidly approaching; the final episode will air on March 10. Nina Dobrev is returning for the finale, and the first video above teases the return of Elena Gilbert (it’s just enough to get fans more excited). Ooh. And then, the second video features series creator and executive producer Julie Plec sharing some warm and fuzzy Mystic Falls memories. The series has been filming for eight years, after all, so the cast and crew have spend a whole lot of hours together. [Deadline]

More Avalor! How about news of another renewal? Disney Channel has picked up the animated series Elena of Avalor for season three. Loosely related: don’t forget that if you’re a fan of the character, you can meet Elena IRL at Disney Parks. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Casting Breakdown. I have updates on casting for a few shows. Let’s review!

  • Star Trek: Discovery: The CBS All Access series has added a few cast members: Maulik Pancholy will play Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nambue, Terry Serpico will play Admiral Anderson, and Sam Vartholomeos will play Ensign Connor. [Entertainment Weekly]
  • Scalped: WGN America’s pilot of DC Comics’ Scalped (it’s a Vertigo imprint) has found its first series regular; Lily Gladstone will play Carol Red Crow. [CBR]
  • Mayans MC: FX’s Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans MC has landed quite the catch. Edward James Olmos is on board to star as Felipe, the patriarch of the Reyes family. [TVLine]

Going Home. Sabine Wren will return home to face her clan in the next Star Wars Rebels. “Legacy of Mandalore” introduces Sabine’s mom, who doesn’t seem super thrilled to see her daughter in the above preview of the next episode until Sabine reveals the darksaber. See what happens when the episode airs on Saturday, February 18.

Family Issues. Supergirl focused on the Luthor family in the most recent episode, appropriately titled “Luthors.” Read Samantha’s recap here at Nerdist.

Who else is excited to meet Sabine’s family in Star Wars Rebels? Talk to me in the comments.
