STRANGER THINGS Season 2 Announcement and Teaser

Seven weeks ago, Stranger Things hit Netflix, won our heart, and became the breakout hit of the summer. The response was so strong that even Netflix executives acknowledged that a renewal was inevitable at the TCA press tour. Today, it's official: Stranger Things is getting a second season in 2017 and we're breaking down the teaser on today's Nerdist News!

There's even better news on top of that: series creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer will be back as the co-showrunners, and this season will have nine episodes, which is one more installment than the first season received. Netflix also released a teaser trailer for Stranger Things season 2, which revealed that the story will pick up in 1984.

Entertainment Weekly had some further details from the Duffers, who confirmed that most of the main characters will be back, including Joyce (Winona Ryder), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Will (Noah Schnapp), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton). But they were coy about whether Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) would return. That said, we wouldn't bet against her! The Duffers also teased four new main characters in the coming season.

Additionally, the Duffer brothers indicated that the scope of the series will expand beyond the small town of Hawkins, Indiana; and we will definitely see more of the Upside Down!

"We kinda just peeled back the curtain and revealed a tiny bit of the Upside Down,” said Matt Duffer while speaking to EW. “So we definitely want to explore a little bit more. There’s a lot we don’t know about the Upside Down at the end of season 1.” Ross Duffer added, “We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there? We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved.”

And the nine names and phrases listed in the teaser? Well we try to figure out exactly what they mean, since they're very likely the episode titles to the nine upcoming episodes for the second season. What a bold move to give us this kind of clue so early on! Those Duffers are a baffling pair.
