The internet loves a bizarre conspiracy theory, and one of the most bizarre (and most fun) has got to be the theory that Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Recreation is actually the son of Steve Harrington from Stranger Things. It’s a bit of a goofy idea, based completely on how similar actors Ben Schwartz and Joe Keery look, and happily, Keery and Schwartz have totally leaned into it.
With Stranger Things 2 headed to Netflix soon, it was time to reignite one of the best cases of Hollywood doppelgangers since Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard. Schwartz and Keery reunited for a Visa commercial that Entertainment Weekly first reported, advertising the identity protection Visa provides. Not only do we get to see the blossiming friendship between the two and that Ben Schwartz’s fashion tastes can be eerily similar to Jean-Ralphio’s, but we also learn some interesting truths about Keery’s feelings towards Schwartz. Take a look:
Obviously, the two actors look super similar, but the real fun lies within the Steve/Jean-Ralphio conspiracy theory. If you’ve never heard it, the theory essentially says Steve and Nancy get together shortly after the events of season one of Stranger Things and conceive Jean-Ralphio. The theory caught a lot of publicity last year when Schwartz showed up on The Late, Late Show with James Corden and confirmed it was true. And because the power of the internet is mighty and awesome, Schwartz and Keery ended up doing a joint interview on The Late, Late Show. We can only hope that we have many more Joe Keery and Ben Schwartz adventures in our future. At the very least, hopefully Ben shows us how he looks in that marshmallow tux Joe bought for him.
