Slideshow of the Apollo Missions Set to Music is Out of This World

Disclaimer: There is no better phrase than “Out of This World” when talking about space related things. Puns are great and we offer no APOLLOgy.

We’re never ones to tell you to actively spend hours on another website, but this one very special time it’s probably OK. The other site in question is the unbelievably beautiful and awe-inspiring Project Apollo Archive. There you’ll find literally thousands of photos from the NASA Apollo missions. You may remember how excited we were when those photos were first uploaded or how awesome it was when people started to combine particular missions into slide-show videos to give us a quick there-and-back trip to the Moon.

After the photos dropped on the internet more and more wonderful things, like the following video, have begun to pop up:

On the surface this fast-paced slideshow of a mission — compiled by Vimeo user harrisonicus — may seem to lack some of the reverence for exploration, but after watching, it may be a perfect way to enjoy something like this. An upbeat electro indie pop track (by Built By Snow) joins us on a trip to the Moon and back in just a few minutes. Space travel is one of the most exciting things mankind has ever accomplished, so why shouldn’t we get to rock out too?

The photos were taken for scientific reasons, but it’s hard not to notice how, when sped up and set to music, it does seem like a slideshow of a (absolutely epic) road-trip.

What do you think of the stop-motion video? What would your Apollo road-trip soundtrack be? Let us know in the comments below!
