[UPDATED] Stop Everything! Is Tina Fey Producing the HOCUS POCUS Sequel?

UPDATE: Sorry to burst all of your bubbles, kids, but it looks like this one might not be real after all. Deadline is reporting that while Tina Fey is in talks to direct a witchy film for them, it is not, in fact, a Hocus Pocus sequel. Still, on the off-chance it is, we’ll leave the rest of the story for you in full, below. An homage to what could have been and what still could maybe be, in our dreams (namely, a beautiful comedic union between Fey and Bette Midler).

Excuse us for being a bit hyperbolic but holy mother of Pearl and all things absofreakinglutely fantastic, we are d-y-i-n-g at this latest and greatest bit of news: Tina Fey, hilarious creator of all things good, will be tackling a long-awaited sequel to the 1993 film Hocus Pocus. SHFUISHFUIFSHIUSGHE — Oh, don’t mind that, it’s just us going amok. Amok, amok, amok, amok, amok… hey OW!

According to The Tracking Board (who first broke news of the sequel’s existence back in April), Fey and her Little Stranger outpost will tackle the film.

For those of you that somehow missed out on the film that essentially defined at least this particular writer’s childhood, Hocus Pocus focused (teehee) on a young boy and his sister after they find themselves the accidental targets of the evil and witchy Sanderson sisters, played with pure genius by the pitch perfect trio that was Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. Though there’s no word as to whether or not the three will reprise their roles (and lord knows they should if they know what’s good for them and also because GODDAMNIT Tina Fey needs to direct Bette Midler lest my heart explode), the sequel is said to pick up several years after the original. It will focus on a housewife with a distant relation to the sisters Sanderson whose children are caught up in a fuss with “some resurrected witches” during their own trick-or-treating jaunt. By teaming up with a witch hunter, the mom will endeavor to set them straight, and no doubt a bevy of hijinks will ensue.

And while there are no actors attached to the film — let alone any confirmation on character reprisals — we’re sure that, with the name Tina Fey attached to the production there will be a veritable smorgasbord of good folks to choose from. Fingers crossed Amy Poehler somehow gets involved? A return appearance of Thackery Binx? ONE CAN ONLY HOPE YOU GUYS. One can only hope.

How excited are you for the prospect of a Tina Fey-crafted Hocus Pocus sequel? Let’s craft some spells about it in the comments.

Dang, what a brief rollercoaster of emotion.

  2. Chelsea says:

Maybe Murray will be a Thackeray binks reincarnat. Instead of actually being binks.
Annnnd. This could either turn out really well. Or not.
If I remember correctly. HOCUS POCUS wasn’t supposed to be made a hot. But now for many 80s and early 90s children, it’s a Halloween cult classic. So there is a lot riding here

  3. PLJ says:

OMFG, I’m so excited! I can safely say I have ALWAYS had a crush on Sean Murray. From Thackery Binx to McGeek! I kind of hope he’s involved somehow. THACKERY BINX!!

  4. am I the only person in America who doesn’t find TIna Fey funny???? I have never ever seen anything funny in anything she has done or was attached to…..

Thackary grew up to be significantly less hot as the schlubby guy from NCIS. My preteen self was quite disappointed when I found out.

  6. Jen says:

This can ether turn out super awesome, or really really terrible. Time will tell.
