Update: Deadline reports that television comedy power couple, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, have just closed deals to return to Curb Your Enthusiasm for its long-awaited ninth season. Danson and Steenburgen, who both star on two of TV’s best new comedies (The Good Place and Last Man on Earth, respectively), will be joining the show’s core cast. More details in our original story below!
Watch out, worldâthe social assassin is back. That’s right, after years of rumors and speculation, Larry David’s brilliant, award-winning comedy series, Curb Your Enthusiasm is returning to HBO. After HBO announced the show’s ninth season this morning, creator and star Larry David shared, “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.'” Of course.
Though the return comes as no surprise after Larry David’s wild success playing presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders on Saturday Night Live, plus rumors from former castmates like J.B. Smoove, we’re still over the moon about this news. (In fact, we’d say it’s prett-y, prett-y, prett-y good.) And if you’ve never seen the show, you simply MUST rectify that immediately. Curb Your Enthusiasm follows Seinfeld creator Larry David about his life as a genuinely horrible person. From his fictional turn in The Producers on Broadway with Mel Brooks, Ben Stiller, and David Schwimmer to a fake Seinfeld revival with Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards, David can and will ruin everything he touches… in the most beautifully comedic way possible. The series also stars Cheryl Hines as David’s on-again-off-again wife Cheryl, Jeff Garlin as his bumbling manager, Susie Essman as Jeff’s wife/Larry’s nemesis Susie, and many, many more.
While there’s no confirmation that any of those folks are returning yet, we think it’s safe to assume that most of our favorites will be back (fingers crossed for Ted Danson, Richard Lewis, and Bob Einstein). Curb Your Enthusiasm is not only one of the greatest comedies of all time (quote me on that), it’s HBO’s longest-running scripted or drama series. Pretty amazing feat when you look at their past lineup.
Stay tuned for more details as they become available, but for now let’s revisit some of our favorite moments of Curb Your Enthusiasm, because it’s Tuesday:
