Steven Moffat Maybe Dashed Your Maisie Williams/DOCTOR WHO Theories

There was never a question that the meeting of super-genre favorites Doctor Who and Game of Thrones would result in a speculative frenzy. Especially when you consider that it’s the Internet’s Favorite Cool British Teen, Maisie Williams, that would be meeting up with The Doctor. Who is her character? What will she be doing? And is she someone we already know?! Thankfully, series showrunner Steven Moffat gave us a dose of real talk while hanging with a bunch of television critics at the Beverly Hilton.

“I can’t really tell you,” Moffat explained to the reporters gathered at the TCA tour stop. “I think once you see what she’s up to in the show, you’ll appreciate what a clever idea of Brian Minchin’s had; that was [our co-executive producer] who thought of Maisie for this part.”

But Maisie’s isn’t a one-and-done role when it comes to being a guest star. According to the Moff, “It’s a significant role. We’re not throwing her away. We’re not just getting star value and doing nothing with it. It’s a great part, and she’s terrific in it. But, I would say, it will develop in unexpected ways.”

He also seemed hellbent on squashing everyone’s dreams and theories about who, exactly, her character might be: River Song? Susan? A young Clara Oswald? Apparently the answer is *drumroll* …none of the above! “One thing I think is worth saying because it keeps coming up as an issue, [is that] she is not playing a returning character—she’s a brand new character. She is not someone from The Doctor’s past.”

“Unless I’m lying,” he added, because of course. “Aye.” Aye indeed, Moff. AYE INDEED!

In the meantime I guess we’ll all just have to sit and ponder. OR watch this video of our own Dan Casey interviewing Peter Capaldi!

So what do you think Maisie Williams’ role is on the series? Do you think Moffat is lying? (The Doctor lies, after all.) Leave your thoughts and considerations in the comments below.
