Last week, The Late Show host Stephen Colbert kicked off his new âFriday Night Fightsâ segment with Thanos vs. Santa Claus in the main event, and Green Lantern LeBron James vs. genie empowered Michael Jordan on the undercard. This week, Colbert revealed the winners from the previous week and set up two new fights!
Colbert pit Frosted Flakes mascot, Tony the Tiger against an unexpected nemesis: Mr. Peanut! Much like Tony, Mr. Peanut is a world famous mascot thanks to the ubiquitous ad campaigns launched by Planters. The peanut and the tiger arenât natural enemies, but Colbert didnât let that get in the way of a good fight.
While Colbert argued that Tony the Tiger would easily take the fight, astrophysicist, TV show host, and noted buzzkill of fictional science, Neil deGrasse Tyson was on hand to argue that Mr. Peanut would take the battle. Tyson also lived up to his reputation for trying to win any argument by science, whether his conclusion made sense or not! And Tyson’s weak argument felt like it belonged in an old Key and Peele sketch.
Tyson initially brought up the fact that the fats and oils inside Mr. Peanut would burn much longer than the sugar in Tony the Tiger’s body…which ultimately meant nothing in this fight. Instead, Tyson was forced to guess that Mr. Peanut would ultimately murder Tony the Tiger because Mr. Peanut has the look of a colonizer. Although it should be noted that Mr. Peanut carries no weapons, so that was pure conjecture on Tyson’s part!
Colbert once again took the battle to twitter, where Tony the Tiger currently has a commanding lead over Mr. Peanut with a few days to go before the polls close. Looks like this tiger is gonna have a âgrrreatâ victory!
