STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Deleted Scene Shows Captain Phasma’s Alternate Fate

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Steer clear if you still haven’t seen it!

After Captain Phasma was cast aside in the garbage shoot in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans were eager to see Gwendoline Christie‘s alter ego get a rematch with John Boyega‘s Finn. But when they finally came face-to-face in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the film didn’t even address the lingering thread of Phasma’s actions. To save her own life, Phasma gave Finn and Han Solo the codes that helped bring down Starkiller Base. Now, Lucasfilm has released a deleted scene from The Last Jedi which brings Phasma’s greatest secret back to the forefront.

The Star Wars Show debuted this deleted scene, which picked up shortly after Phasma’s helmet was busted open. Rose and Finn’s escape from the First Order must have played out very differently in this cut. Instead of trying to fight his way past Phasma and her troops, Finn realized that he could simply use the truth against Phasma by telling her troops what she did.

Phasma is clearly a very capable fighter if she can take out her own men and Finn, and yet she does have selfish and even cowardly qualities as well. Finn’s line about “rebel scum” is also in this version of the scene, but it seems less defiant and it’s over very quickly. Unfortunately, Phasma’s fate wasn’t fundamentally changed in this alternate take. But if she can survive a garbage compactor, then we’re still hopeful that Phasma can return at least one more time.
