STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Rumor: Max Von Sydow is Boba Fett

Warning: potential Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoilers.

Update: MoviePilot has since removed the original story, so for now we’ll just have to ponder the possibilities ourselves! We’ll keep you updated as more becomes available…

Looks like that jet pack still had some fuel in it after all! According to a new rumor making its way around that twisting Kessel Run we call the internet, Max Von Sydow’s mysterious role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be everyone’s favorite Mandalorian mercenary, Boba Fett! (Sorry, Jango fans. He’s still dead, that’s how decapitation works.)

When we last saw the infamous bounty hunter in Return of the Jedi, he looked like he was destined to be a snack for the Sarlacc after a blind Han Solo accidentally thwacked him with a pole, sending him careening into the Sarlacc Pit in the desert wastes of Tatooine. However, as we have since learned from George Lucas himself, Boba Fett did not die in the pit, and now it seems we might see exactly what happened to the masticated Mandalorian.

In The Force Awakens, Von Sydow’s Boba Fett would no longer be wearing his signature armor; his identity is “hidden by cybernetic modifications” that he required after suffering grievous injuries from his encounter with the Sarlacc. The source behind the rumor, who had previously confirmed to the outlet that Adam Driver would be playing Kylo Ren, claims that the reveal would not come until the third act, and will tie into the events following the Battle of Jakku, which is the conflict that leaves Rey’s desert home littered with the rusting husks of Imperial warships.

Considering the second Star Wars Anthology film is said to revolve around a young Boba Fett, it makes sense that J.J. Abrams and company would want to bring back a fan favorite for Episode VII. Still, as long as Max Von Sydow is involved, you know the character is going to be a badass regardless.

Would you like to see Boba Fett make his triumphant return? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below.
