STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Reveals All of Its “Additional Voices”

Sharp-eyed Star Wars fans may have noticed that the end credits for Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured several performers from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels listed as “Additional Voices.” While some of the voiceover artists are easily distinctive, it would be a challenge to identify them all by speech alone.

Thankfully, Star Wars: The Force Awakens supervising sound editor Matthew Wood has written a lengthy post that shares many of the details about who provided the voiceovers in the movie. However, he hinted that some surprise cameos will currently remain unannounced. “I’m happy to finally reveal everyone… running through the film chronologically. There are also a couple of actor cameos in there that shall remain nameless (for now).”

Aside from Finn and Captain Phasma, the stormtrooper that has earned the most prominent reception was the former squadmate of Finn’s who yelled “Traitor!” at him outside of Maz Kanata’s castle. Although the fans nicknamed him “TR-8R,” Lucasfilm unveiled his real name (FN-2199) and backstory earlier this month, Now we know who provided his voice: David Acord. Additionally in The Force Awakens, Acord voiced Teedo (the alien who tried to capture BB-8 on Jakku when Rey heard their struggle), one of the thugs who later attacked Rey and tried to steal BB-8, and the droid that contacted the Resistance at Maz Kanata’s bar. Acord was also the sound designer and supervising sound editor for The Force Awakens and Star Wars Rebels.

Former Being Human star Sam Witwer provided the voices of several stormtroopers throughout the film. Those characters weren’t quite as prominent as his previous Star Wars voices, which include Darth Maul from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Emperor from Star Wars Rebels, and even Starkiller from the non-canonical video game series, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Director (and occasional actor) Kevin Smith also had a vocal cameo in The Force Awakens as the stormtrooper who says, “We have incoming at 28.6! Move!” when the Resistance attacks the First Order outside of Maz’s castle.

The full list of vocal performances from The Force Awakens can be read on StarWars.com.
