STAR WARS REBELS Introduces Obi-Wan, MAGIC SCHOOL BUS Return, and More TV News

Wednesday was an exciting day in the realm of television news. We’re gonna run it all down in today’s TV-Cap, but here are some of the highlights: Star Wars Rebels will bring Obi-Wan Kenobi to the show in season three, Netflix is bringing back The Magic School Bus, and The Goldbergs will have a 1989 Batman themed episode. That’s a lotta TV news—let’s review!

A Warning. The midseason trailer for Star Wars Rebels’ third season is here, and it’s a stunner. The back half of the season looks to be jam-packed with appearances and introductions—Saw Gerrera, Mon Mothma, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Yeah, you read that right. Maul has hunted down his old enemy on Tatooine, and I can’t express in words how much I need all of that encounter in my eyeballs right this very second. No, I’m not patient like a Jedi. The roller coaster ride kicks off when the show returns Saturday, January 7, with a two-part episode featuring Rogue One’s Saw. [Nerdist]

Going Live. Hulu‘s throwing its hat into the live TV service game. That’s not news. What is news is Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins recently announced the price point: they’re going to keep it under $40. Get more details about what Hulu will offer at Variety.

A Little Move. Archer is picking up and changing network locations this spring. Rather than airing on FX, the animated comedy will debut season eight on FXX.

New Year, New TV. The arrival of the new year means plenty of fresh and exciting television is about to drop into your laps. Welcome 2017 with open arms and check out the shows we’re most excited about in the newest installment of The Dan Cave. Read detailed breakdowns of the shows here at Nerdist.

They Are the Night. ABC’s The Goldbergs jumps around the ’80s, and the sitcom is no stranger to themed episodes. The next theme on their list? Tim Burton’s Batman from 1989. And it gets better: Kevin Smith is directing the episode. Filming begins next week; you can read comments from Smith and series creator Adam F. Goldberg over at IGN.

Diplo Stand-In. What’s it like to be Diplo? Vice will explore that all important question with a new scripted show on Viceland. What Would Diplo Do? stars James Van Der Beek as the popular DJ, and a trailer for the series is bizarre but also kind of great? The show will debut in 2017. [Nerdist]

Take a Ride. It’s happening! Remember way back in 2014 when Netflix talked about a new take on The Magic School Bus? The reboot didn’t come out in 2016 like Netflix estimated, but producer Stu Stone recently told TMZ the animated series is still in the works with lots of celebrity cameos. Sounds like it could be coming this year!  I’m looking forward to see more Ms. Frizzle cosplays at conventions. [Nerdist]

My Heart. Oh my. HBO’s documentary about Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds was in the can long before the duo passed away at the end of December. The release of Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds got bumped up, and the 95-minute documentary will air on January 7 at 8:00 PM. HBO’s released a trailer that will get you right in the tear ducts and other body parts. [Nerdist]

Which part of the season three Star Wars Rebels midseason trailer has you the most excited? Tell me in the comments.
