STAR WARS Meets Rian Johnson’s BRICK in Hilarious Fan Film

Long before he got to determine the fates of beloved characters in the Star Wars galaxy, writer/director Rian Johnson made a name for himself with the brilliant indie film Brick back in 2005. The movie was a 1940s style mystery noir/thriller, spoken almost entirely in gumshoe dialogue from classic detective stories of the past, but set in a modern day high school in suburban San Clemente, California. Starring a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the movie propelled Johnson’s career, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, a fan by the name of Dana James Jones has made a short film which pays homage to Brick, written by his uncle Dominic Flores, and which tackles the real life toxic fandom that’s been pervasive since the release of Johnson’s The Last Jedi. The brilliant and hilarious short film Star Wars: Revenge of the Incels, takes on recent events like Kelly Marie Tran’s Instagram exit after racist “fans” hurled one too many insults and threats at her, and the ridiculous “fan remake” of The Last Jedi. Shot almost entirely at the same San Clemente locations as the original Brick, the fan film has already caught the attention of Rian Johnson himself, who tweeted out his approval and disbelief.

Among the many characters in the film are versions of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and director JJ Abrams. And there are a few other hilarious surprises I won’t spoil for you. If you are a fan of Brick and Star Wars, this one is a must-watch. And really, anything that mocks those awful, toxic incels is funny in our book.

Did you love this hilarious fan film as much as we did? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comments.
