Star Wars: The Last Jedi is just over a week away, and this is not a drill, people! But before director Rian Johnson leaves the current trilogy behind to plot the course of a brand new trilogy, he couldn’t resist dropping at least one more Last Jedi hint. Today’s Nerdist News is consulting the Resistance codebreakers to figure out what it means for the sequel.
There are potential spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Last Jedi! Maybe it’s nothing, or perhaps it’s a significant detail. Either way, you’ve been warned!
Join host and the keeper of the Kyber crystals, Jessica Chobot, as she runs down the possibilities of a new lightsaber hue in the movie. Johnson apparently let that detail slip while speaking to Parade Magazine, and it’s set off the rumorville. And as much as we’d love to see Samuel L. Jackson‘s Mace Windu return with his signature purple lightsaber, that’s one rumor that seems pretty unlikely. There is also the possibility that Johnson is referring to Luke Skywalker’s green lightsaber from Return of the Jedi, which has not been seen in The Last Jedi promo images or trailers.
That would be the safest way to go, but we’d love to see the new lightsaber expand upon the four cinematic colors as well as the yellow, white, and black lightsabers that have appeared on the various Star Wars animated series. If Johnson wanted to take Supreme Leader Snoke’s gold obsession to its natural conclusion, then Snoke should have a gold lightsaber! And while her time as a Jedi was wiped away with the Extended Universe, we’d still love to see General Leia get her own unique lightsaber, no matter how long it takes.
What new color lightsaber would you like to see in The Last Jedi? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
