STAR WARS Fan’s Dying Wish is to See THE FORCE AWAKENS Early

UPDATE: Daniel’s wife Ashley posted to Facebook on November 5th to offer an update. Disney and LucasFilm reached out to the family and Daniel was given a screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Read Ashley’s post below, and we’re so happy to hear #ForceForDaniel has reached its goal. Mission accomplished!

To all our wonderful supporters, friends, family and awesome strangers: Daniels final dream was just granted!!! Today…

Posted by Ashley Fleetwood on Thursday, 5 November 2015

Daniel Fleetwood was given two months to live in July. The 32-year-old is suffering from a rare form of cancer called spindle cell sarcoma—a type of connective tissue cancer. Currently under hospice care at his home, the lifelong Star Wars fan—who first became a fan at the age of eight and was once recognized by his local paper for waiting in line for Star Wars tickets—is asking for help, along with his wife Ashley, in making sure he can see The Force Awakens before it is too late. And now, the internet is banding together to help make that happen.

Twitter users have been using the hashtag #ForceForDaniel to catch the attention of Disney and possibly director J.J. Abrams, who reportedly allowed a terminally ill Star Trek fan to see Star Trek Into Darkness early. Mark Hamill and John Boyega have already retweeted a post about the viral campaign, so it has gained enough traction to reach some important players.

Obviously this is a heartbreaking story, but if enough attention is brought to Daniel’s wish, hopefully the people with the power to make it happen will find it in their hearts to make it so. So please, if you can take to Twitter or Facebook or any other social media platform and help spread the message, please do. We here at Nerdist support you and hope your wish comes true!

And to Daniel, may the Force be with you, always.
