“This, my friend, is a pint.”
We can only hope that Dominic Monaghan, a.k.a. Merry Brandybuck, the best hobbit ever in the Lord of the Rings films (and other roles, we guess), joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX, the majority of which was revealed in late July, means we’ll get important discussions about second breakfasts and the size of beverages at the cantina. Deadline announced on Friday that Monaghan has joined the Episode IX cast; no specifics about his role are available at this time, but hey, what if he played an actual mystery box? No one would see that coming.
Although his casting hasn’t been confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney yet, Monaghan already commented on it (oops?), so you can consider it a done deal.
Monaghan said, “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved.”
Of course, one of the other roles he’s best known for is his turn as Charlie Pace on Lost, a series co-created and executive produced by Episode IX director J.J. Abrams, so like fellow Star Wars cast member Keri Russell, he’s reuniting with an old friend on this project.
Monaghan could play any number of characters, from humans to aliens, so we’re not going to speculate until we have a teensy bit of information to build upon. Do you already have thoughts about who he’s playing? Share your guesses in the comments.
