If you are a fan of both Star Wars and Doctor Who, then this week must have been nothing but pure joy. Between your probable multiple viewings of The Force Awakens and the return of River Song in last night’s Christmas special (You can read Kyle Anderson’s review here), it was definitely a good time to be a fan. Thanks to the above video, you can see what happens when you combine these two things.
Ken from Hampton’s Hand-Crafted Lightsabers gives us a look at the company’s newest creation, aptly called the Time Lord. Yes, they have created a Sonic Screwdriver Lightsaber. The handle is based on Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor design (yeah, Peter Capaldi used it for a bit, too, but that’s splitting hairs). When activated, not only does it have the classic Lightsaber sounds, it also emits the Sonic’s scanning noise in the background.
The handle has what’s called a “blade retention” screw, which is what holds the blade in place. Users of the Time Lord have an added bonus with this feature. You can choose to keep the claws of the Sonic closed or open, just like when the Doctor is using the Sonic. This is beneficial, as wielders will be able to scan for the best spot to chop their opponent’s hand off during battle.
You can check out more of Hampton’s custom works on their YouTube channel here.
So what do you think? Would you like to see the Doctor test his mettle against a Sith Lord? Will Hampton’s next design be a Sonic Sunglasses Lightsaber? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
