A Piece of STAR WARS’ Original Death Star Is Up for Auction

Do you dream of one day dissolving the Galactic Senate and ruling the galaxy through fear and intimidation thanks to your planet-destroying battle station? If so, that’s weird and troubling. However, if you’re merely a gigantic Star Wars fan who would love to own an historic set piece from the original film, this is the auction you’re looking for! eBay is giving you a (pricey) chance to take home an actual part of the 1977 film’s original Death Star.

Hollywood Memorabilia has a portion of the ultimate weapon that appeared on screen in A New Hope up for sale. Most of the Death Star set was destroyed after filming, but this part was kept by a former Industrial Light & Magic employee for 37 years, before being placed in safe storage upon being sold to a private collector four years ago. (Making this the longest any part of a Death Star or Starkiller Base has lasted by quite a stretch.) Measuring just under two feet long, almost a foot wide, and 6.8 inches tall, it is covered in a complex molding that gives its detailed finish.

The piece will also come with two letters of authenticity, along with a custom-built case, which seems only fair since it is expected to sell for a price in the six-figure range. (So you better hope you hit the jackpot at the Canto Bight Casino before the auction ends on June 3.)

If you are the lucky winner, we hope you use this for good and don’t succumb to the Dark Side. Remember, the more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.
