Adam Savage Geeks Out Over Custom STAR WARS Furniture

For Star Wars lovers, there’s no shortage of collectibles, statues, and action figures to buy. But when it comes to high quality Star Wars-inspired furniture, there was a void that needed to be filled. Tom Spina stepped up to meet that niche with his company Regal Robot, which produces officially licensed Star Wars furniture that can be customized upon request. During a recent installment of Tested, Adam Savage had the chance to visit Regal Robot’s workshop and learn more about the way that Spina and his team build and design their stunning creations.

The first item that caught Savage’s eye was a desk based upon the Millennium Falcon‘s asteroid field run from The Empire Strikes Back. As Spina explained it, the Millennium Falcon used in that design was 3D printed from the model used for the Disney theme park ride, Star Tours. From there, the Regal Robot team broke the model down so that it could be made into a mold.

From there, Savage gushed over the Han Solo in carbonite desk, which was based on an earlier design that Spina made almost a decade ago. For the updated Han-in-carbonite design, Spina added more functionality to the desk itself and used better molds to recapture Harrison Ford’s facial likeness. Spina also shared the story about the actor whose body was really used as the model for Han Solo’s deep freeze.
