Although Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn’t open for another two months, the world has already fallen in love with the adorable new droid BB-8, and that’s just from seeing it roll around and make cute noises in the two trailers for the movie we’ve seen so far, as well as one appearance on stage at Star Wars Celebration this past April.
Although for many of us old school Star Wars fans, our hearts will always belong to R2-D2, it’s impossible to deny the innate cuteness of this new little robot/soccer ball combo. Ever since fandom learned of BB-8, there have been videos showing fans how build their own, and the biggest hit toy from Force Friday had to be the remote controlled toy version of the cute little droid. He’s the biggest breakout star of 2015, and his movie hasn’t even opened yet. That’s true star power, baby.
Now a Star Wars fan from Canada named Daniel Hoogkamp, who also happens to be the father of four children, gets the “Cool Nerd Dad of the Year” award for posting photos of a Halloween Jack Oâ Lantern painted and carved in the likeness of BB-8. Of course, once Mr. Hoogkamp showed off his BB-8 inspired pumpkin on via Twitter, imitators have followed, so don’t be surprised if you see some BB-8 Jack O’ Lanterns while taking your kids trick or treating this Nerdoween.
