In 1977, George Lucas‘ Star Wars sent moviegoers to “a galaxy far, far away” and transformed modern blockbusters forever. When the film was re-released, it became Episode IV: A New Hope, and it has continued to capture the imagination of fans for decades. Now, Sperry is celebrating Star Wars‘ 40th anniversary with a collection of five shoes that were inspired by the movie that started it all.
There’s no better place to start than the beginning, and the Star Wars concept art created by Ralph McQuarrie led to many of the most famous visuals in cinema. For the first the McQuarrie Cloud Slip-on, Sperry is putting two of McQuarrie’s iconic paintings on display: the flight of the X-Wing and Darth Vader’s lightsaber duel.
The Death Star Cloud CVO is keeping it dark, with a tribute to something that’s definitely not a moon! But the green coloring is meant to represent the Death Star’s planet killing lasers, and that is an Imperial symbol on the side.
Perhaps you’re more of a Rebel than an Imperial. In that case, the Rebel Pilot Cloud CVO is for you, with its colors drawn from the X-Wing pilot suit that Luke Skywalker and the other pilots wore in the original film. The symbol of the rebellion also adorns these shoes.
But if you’re a bit of a rogue or a scruffy nerf herder, than the Han and Chewie Slip-on is for you. These shoes probably won’t help you go any faster on the Kessel run, but it’s hard to argue with two of the best characters in the franchise.
And finally, these are the droids you’re looking for. The Droid Cloud Slip-on brings together the inseparable duo of C-3PO and R2-D2.
Sperry’s Star Wars collection will be going on sale as of August 10 at Sperry stores. You can get more info from Sperry’s official page.
