After more than 50 years, dozens and dozens of seasons of television, and countless movies with numerous casts, there might be no more iconic Star Trek moment than Captain James T. Kirk bellowing, “Khaaaaan!” at his nemesis. It’s an intense showdown featuring a classic William Shatner performance punctuated with one of the most famous screams in cinema history. And we just found a way to make it even better: by recasting it with two hilarious cartoon characters.
In this clip from the latest episode of our fantastic Alpha series Talkin’ Toons, host Rob Paulsen asked fellow voice actor Todd Haberkorn to help him recreate the classic verbal joust between Shatner and Ricardo Montalban from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the one that ends with Shatner’s often imitated, much beloved, bloodcurdling exclamation. Rob filled in for Khan as Yakko from Animaniacs, and when Haberkorn elected to play Captain Kirk as his alien character Grey Matter from Ben 10 the animosity between the two characters became more of a sweet spat between two similar sounding, super silly weirdos.
The name “Khan” might not have gone down in the annals of pop culture history had Captain Kirk sounded like Grey Matter, but it sure would have been a lot funnier. Even funnier than the actual version.
Remember, you can only find the rest of this and all other episodes of Talkinâ Toons at our online Alpha community, where we have plenty of other great series to check out.
