One day having diverse casts on television will be normal, and we won’t have to make special notes about the lineup. That day will be neat, but until then, I’m going to keep calling out when showrunners make an effort—like with Star Trek: Discovery. Read today’s TV-Cap to learn about Bryan Fuller’s plans for a female lead for the series, to get a release date for the Stranger Things soundtrack, to find out about a Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg cooking show (really) and more.

Changing the Narrative. Every Star Trek series to date has followed the captain’s perspective, but that won’t be the case with Star Trek: Discovery. CBS brought the show to the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) summer press tour and showrunner Bryan Fuller said a different character will be at the center of the story and she’ll be female. Carry On. The cast of Supernatural is carrying on right into season 12, and the stakes are huge. Season 11 went into big mythology–God returned, Lucifer is on the loose–and they have to pick up and move forward. Who’s ready for teases? Watch the above video and get them. It’s Not the Years. Buffy fans, rejoice, because Charisma Carpenter has a guest star spot on Lucifer in season two’s fifth episode. She’ll play Jamie Lee Adrienne, “a former Playmate with a lot of party years on her.” [TVLine]

BoJack Love. Have you heard of BoJack Horseman? The Netflix animated series is targeted at adults; it tackles heavy topics head-on and does so with a talented cast. So, given all those awesome elements, why isn’t there more buzz about the show? Read Alicia’s thoughts on the matter.

So. Baked. We live in a world where Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart are going to be sharing a screen and kitchen together on VH1. I couldn’t make this up. Martha & Snoop’s Dinner Party is coming this fall, and Stewart says the show will “exemplify America’s fascination with food, entertaining, and celebrity.” Bring it on. [Nerdist]

The Big Move. While at the TCAs, CBS entertainment president Glenn Geller talked about Supergirl’s move to The CW for season two. He said the show received good numbers, but it was about opportunity. “It [Supergirl] averaged over 10 million viewers per episode. At the end of this day, we looked at the situation and said, ‘How can we both win from this?’ We co-own The CW, so this was an opportunity for both CBS and Warner Bros. to really benefit from the success of the show; they produce it and we co-own the network.” [Comic Book Resources]

Taking a Turn. FX’s horror series The Strain has already differed from the source material (the book series), and the changes aren’t done. The executive producers talked to reporters at the TCAs about why they’re diverging. Get all the details here.
