STAR TREK Cast Beams Up for Bridge Crew VR Experience at E3

You’ve no doubt watched an episode or film in the Star Trek saga and wished you were a member of the bridge crew. Whether the helmsman piloting the ship, weapons person making sure Klingon warships don’t blow you out of the sky, or even–dare I say it–the captain saying things like “Warp One, engage,” being aboard a starship, as part of a team, might be one of the coolest sci-fi jobs. Now you can, thanks to Ubisoft‘s new virtual reality experience, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, which premiered at E3 on Monday.

The VR game will allow players to sit on the bridge of a Starfleet vessel–the U.S.S. Aegis to be exact–and face threats and explore the universe as a group of friends inhabiting virtual space. And who better to test drive this new means of traversing the cosmos than three members of three different Star Trek crews: LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge from Star Trek: The Next Generation), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager), and Karl Urban (Bones from the rebooted Star Trek film universe). The each take position at the helm, at engineering, and at tactical and go up against the might of the Klingon Empire itself.

You guys, this looks like only one step removed from being on an actual holodeck. You’ll get to go on missions and work together with your friends aboard a brand new Starfleet vessel without having to worry about exploding or anything of that nature. It is, to quote a TNG episode, “The Best of Both Worlds.”
