In this technology-fueled world, where crowdsourcing can raise $2 million in one day to make a feature film out of a cancelled TV show, it’s inevitable that the power of making and distributing films will fall to the creative people and the folks who want to see them be creative. With this knowledge, anybody with an idea can make things, and Splitsider has stepped up as one of the early leaders for comedy content.

Splitsider has long covered the comedy scene and been a proponent of creative, funny people, and now it’s expanding to be a creator and distributor itself with Splitsider Presents, its new distribution wing. It’ll be digitally releasing original comedy films, documentaries, and stand-up specials, all for $5 apiece. No middlemen, no waiting. That also means that the majority of the fiver received per purchase goes directly to the people who made the thing.

The first Splitsider Presents release is Ben Popik’s film The Exquisite Corpse Project, in which he puts a challenge to the other five members of the comedy troupe Olde English: They must each write 15 pages of a screenplay, having only read the last five of the person before. It’s very difficult to create a cohesive script out of only five pages, but that is exactly what’s fun about it. When the writing was finished, Popik then made that script into a film, and we get to see the results, from inception to finished product. It’s a mixture of genres, tones, ideas, and no shortage of laughs. SPPOILER: Aliens make an appearance.

If that sounds like something that interests you, you’re in luck; the Splitsider Presents store is now live, and The Exquisite Corpse Project is only $5 and a few clicks away. Support independent comedy, people. And keep your eyes on Splitsider Presents. They’re going places.
