Is the MCU’s SPIDER-MAN Going to Be in VENOM?

Even after Sony and Marvel came to a groundbreaking agreement to share Spider-Man between three MCU films and two solo movies, it’s become very clear that Sony wants its own Marvel Cinematic Universe, whether Spidey is involved or not. The upcoming Venom film starring Tom Hardy in the title role is the first step in that direction, although it’s anyone’s guess if one of Spider-Man’s greatest adversaries can work without the web slinger. However, today’s Nerdist News is looking at a new rumor that suggests Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man might appear in Venom after all.

Join host and the fifth person to be bitten by a radioactive spider, Jessica Chobot, as she spins a web around the report from director Jon Schnepp on Collider’s Movie Talk podcast. This is far from an official confirmation, but Schnepp insisted that Holland was spotted on the set of Venom. The big question now is was Holland just hanging out or did he film a cameo appearance for the film? You may recall that the mere suggestion that the MCU and Sony’s Marvel movies were connected was enough to give Kevin Feige his own “Sad Affleck” moment and a gulp that was heard around the world.

Technically, the Spider-Man rights are simply on loan to Marvel and they are currently set to expire after the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is released. It’s possible that Sony exercised its rights by placing Holland in Venom, even though that would create more continuity headaches than Homecoming‘s “Eight Years Later” title card.

Alternately, Marvel and Sony may have already worked out a deal that would allow Holland’s Spider-Man to appear without contradicting any of his MCU appearances. The ideal solution would be if Sony and Marvel can fully integrate the remaining Spider-Man characters into the established film universe. With the X-Men and the Fantastic Four characters likely to be joining the MCU after the Disney and Fox deal goes through, it would be a shame to lose Spidey so soon after he returned to the fold. But we may not know for sure about Holland appearing in Venom until the movie comes out on October 5.

Should Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appear in Venom? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
