Next year, Marvel’s wall-crawling superhero is getting a fresh start in Spider-Man: Homecoming, his first solo movie in the MCU. It’s long been known that former cinematic Batman, Michael Keaton is playing the film’s big bad (won’t someone at Marvel say the word “Vulture?”), with Logan Marshall-Green as a secondary antagonist, the Tinkerer. Now, we’ve got visual confirmation of the film’s third villain, and we’re breaking it down in today’s Nerdist News!
The latest spy photos from Spider-Man: Homecoming have revealed the costume for Fargo season 2 standout Bokeem Woodbine. And the rumors are true: he’s playing one of Spidey’s C-list villains, the Shocker! Note that director Jon Watts and the film’s creative team are not going Electro-blue with Shocker. His costume seems a bit homemade and crude, which suggests that he either made it himself or received an assist from the Tinkerer.
Previous Spider-Man films have had trouble handling more than one villain without letting the story get off track. Fortunately, Nerdist News host and alternate Earth Spider-Woman, Jessica Chobot is here to explain how Woodbine’s Shocker could easily fit into the film without dragging it down. Perhaps the Shocker is going to be one of the first villains that Spidey encounters on his own, which would give Woodbine’s character a unique distinction even if he is quickly defeated and handed over to the police.
If Sony is still serious about making a Sinister Six movie, having Woodbine as the Shocker isn’t a bad start at all. We think he’s an amazing (pun absolutely intended) actor who deserves a recurring role in the new Spider-Man franchise.
