Our Epic SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Trailers Breakdown is Here

If Spider-Man‘s debut in Civil War didn’t get you excited for his official inclusion into the MCU, well, you’re dead inside and there’s nothing we can do to help you. But for the rest of humanity, two new trailers dropped for next summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming for you to obsess over on Thursday night and we’re here to break ’em both down for you. One American, one international, both over-stuffed with so many awesome details and easter eggs you may need a hand picking them all out.

Multiple Spidey Suits – In the trailers we see shots of Peter Parker in his original hoodie disguise, his pre-Civil War red and blue underoos as well as the new suit with a bunch of Stark Tech upgrades. Despite Sony’s promises of skipping over Spider-Man’s origins, it seems like we’ll at least get a little glimpse of the familiar backstory.

Various Villains – Both trailers open with an ATM heist assisted by some Chitauri tech left over from the battle of New York in the first Avengers. We’re guessing the tech was adapted into human friendly weaponry by The Tinkerer, who we know is in the movie but doesn’t appear in either trailer. We also get to see Fargo star Bokeem Woodbine in action as the Shocker, but in a recently leaked call sheet he’s listed as “Shocker #2.” So who could Shocker #1 be? Our money is on Donald Glover, who shows up for a quick shot, glowering at a goon testing out a Shocker Gauntlet. And then there’s the movie’s big bad, Michael Keaton’s Vulture. While he’s looking a lot more badass than the old man wings he’s usually depicted as in the comics, we’re loving some of the nods to the original design, including the feathered ruffle around the neck line.

Deep in The MCU – Sony is not going to let you forget that Spider-Man is now officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are MCU easter eggs, big and small, littered throughout the trailers. Including a bunch of thugs dressed as The Avengers, images of of Bruce Banner hanging on the walls of Peter Parker’s high school and aforementioned Chitauri tech. And of course the biggest nod to the MCU; Iron Man himself! While his role in the film is probably going to be a lot smaller, these trailers are cut to make Homecoming look like a father/son bonding story between Peter Parker and Tony Stark.

It’s still over half a year before Spider-Man: Homecoming is released on July 7th, so we’ll have a lot of time to keep pouring over these trailers. Is there anything you noticed that we missed? Let us know in the comments.
