If you haven’t been tuned into the Spider-Man comics since their earliest days in print, you might not know that Peter Parker’s super suit originally included webbed underarm wings (think flying squirrel). That design element was shed for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s big screen portrayals of the character, but it’s now been confirmed (via Birth Movies Death) that Spidey’s wings will make a return in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Above is a teaser for the film’s trailer, which is set to debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight. While the clip runs for a mere 17 seconds, it does confirm the rumors that surfaced a few days ago: Tom Holland’s Spider-Man opens a case with a note from Tony Stark that reads, “A minor upgrade,” before cutting to Spider-Man using his new wings to glide over a police helicopter.

Again, the wings are an element that’s been largely lost as Spider-Man has carried on. When the character was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko back in 1962, Spidey did very much have the webbing, although it was more decorative than functional. As other artists took on the responsibility of drawing Spider-Man, some included the wings, and others didn’t. Furthermore, some of these iterations of Spider-Man made the wings functional, whether for gliding or to create wind resistance to slow a long descent.

Spider-Man will face off against Vulture (played by Michael Keaton) in Homecoming, so it makes sense that the Stark-designed suit will give Spider-Man an added edge against his airborne adversary.
