It was always only a matter of time, but now it’s official: your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is coming to Disneyland! The character will join the newly revamped Superhero HQ, which features Marvel props and character meet n’ greets in the Tomorrowland Expo Center.
If you’re wondering, “What the heck is the Tomorrowland Expo Center??”, you’re not alone. That’s the new name for what was, until recently, the Innoventions building.  The Innoventions building originally opened in 1967 as the Carousel of Progress, a two level circular building with rotating floors. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do much in the way of rotating anymore.
For the past several years, Innoventions has become the home to Marvel character photo ops with Captain America and Thor. It also boasts props from various Marvel Studios films, including various suits from the Iron Man film series in the Hall of Armor. Now Marvel is set to take over the entire top floor of the building, and Spidey gets to tag along.
Although Marvel acquired Spider-Man in 2009, Disney seemed hesitant to place the character in the parks until he officially joined the MCU. (Although you could find a pair of Spidey-style Mickey Mouse ears if you knew where to look.) As we get closer to his appearance in Marvel’s upcoming Civil War, it seems Disney is ready to incorporate Peter Parker into the action.
You can expect to see a whole lot more of the web-slinger in Disneyland, but not Disneyworld due to a pre-existing deal Marvel made with Universal Studios Orlando for their Marvel Islands of Adventure theme park. Sorry, east coasters. Maybe one day Disney will make a deal with Universal to get the Marvel characters back as well. Hopefully the same day that Marvel gets the Fantastic Four away from Fox. (Fingers crossed!)
Spider-Man officially joins the rest of the Avengers in Superhero HQ when it opens November 16 in the Tomorrowland Expo Center at Disneyland park. That happens to be the very same day that Star Wars Launch Bay opens on the bottom floor of the Expo Center. I have a feeling between Marvel and Star Wars, the old Innoventions building is going to be more popular than it has been in years.
