Sony has just revealed its latest line of Bravia televisions that support the upcoming game-streaming service PlayStation Now.
As reported during CES, the new Bravia 4K Ultra HD TV sets will allow gamers to play PlayStation 3 titles without needing a connected console. Instead, using Sony’s Gaikai streaming service, PS3 games will stream directly to the 4K television sets. All you need is a DualShock 3 controller to play.
The TVs aren’t cheap, with prices starting at $2,100 and going as high as $25,000. Pre-sales for the Bravia TV sets are going on now.

This is honestly a terrible road to go down. Consoles and streaming devices are much less expensive than TV sets, and therefore much less painful to upgrade. A basic monitor with a great picture can last a decade, plugged into the best available streaming devices and consoles, but a smart TV will have to be upgraded every three years or so. Bad, bad idea – just to save some entertainment center clutter.
If Sony really wanted to change the paradigm, they’d put the full PS4 in the guts of the TV standard.
