Sony has a press conference at E3 scheduled on June 12, but it looks like one of their announcements may have accidentally been revealed a bit early. As Polygon notes, at least a couple Reddit users are reporting sightings of a gold PS4 in stores even though no such product has been officially unveiled yet.
One user snuck a peek at one before the Walmart he was at realized that particular product wasn’t supposed to be out on shelves just yet. “This Walmart put them out early,” they wrote. “Register locked up when I tried to buy one and the staff realized their mistake. I snagged a pic before they brought them out back.” A matching gold Dual Shock 4 wireless controller also made its way onto Best Buy’s website, and as of this posting, the listing is still available.

You might think that a gold edition of a video game console means a higher price point, but that actually doesn’t appear to be the case here. In fact, it looks like the gold PS4, which has a rumored release date of June 9, will be cheaper than your standard $300 PS4, since price stickers shown in photos on Reddit read $249.
Do you plan on copping the gold PS4 when it comes out (perhaps on June 9), or do you prefer the crisp black look of the standard PS4? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments below!
