This August, we will be witness to the third entry into the DC Cinematic Universe, Suicide Squad. If the trailers so far are any indication, we are in for something truly insane. Made up almost completely of supervillains, this will be a team unlike any other we’ve seen on the big screen. So naturally, some folks on the internet have wondered: what if that insanity was applied to other teams? Well, thanks to mash-up extraordinaire the Unusual Suspect, we can get a small glimpse of what could have been in the video above, cutting together the Lord of the Rings trilogy with Suicide Squad trailer flair.
The Lord of the Rings is arguably one of the most epic stories told, on both page and screen. While it has its funny moments, it’s not really looked at as a comedy. But that’s where Unusual Suspect’s editing prowess comes in, splicing the most comedic moments from the entire series together to make it seem like it was nine (or 12, depending on which version you watch) hours of slapstick. Not that we didn’t love the first trilogy, but to watch a bunch of sword fighting/beheadings to the drum beat of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, makes us sorta wish this iteration existed, too.

So what do you think? Would the Lord of Rings be better as an insane comedy? Could the Hobbit trilogy have benefited from this kind of treatment? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
