SNL Recap: Chris Hemsworth with Musical Guest Zac Brown Band

Last night Chris Hemsworth took to the stage to host Saturday Night Live with musical guest Zac Brown Band. The episode was pretty funny, starting off with Kate McKinnon breaking out here Hillary Clinton impression. Here’s hoping she’ll eventually nail her Hillary voice before the 2016 presidential election. That is assuming Hillary will run, of course… Next, Chris’s opening monologue featured cameos from all of the Hemsworth brothers: Luke, Liam and “Callum” joined Chris to take questions from the audience making it a family affair. Here are some other sketches that shined throughout the night.

Chris Hemsworth American Express Ad

Look, no matter which way you slice it, Chris Hemsworth is a good looking dude. One thing I’ve always loved about him is that he isn’t afraid to have a little fun with his “captain of the football team” exterior. Those who need previous proof need look no further than his often underappreciated role in Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods. Hemsworth continued to have a little fun with his image in this American Express Ad parody.

Spaceship

Sometimes I wonder where the sillier of sketch ideas come from in the SNL writers room. In “Spaceship,” the premise is so simple and ridiculous and yet, it’s still a lot of fun. Chris Hemsworth, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson and Sasheer Zamata are the members on a space crew captained by a chicken. Throughout the course of the sketch, Hemsworth delivers a heartbreaking monologue to his dearly beloved, the chicken, before she sacrifices herself for the good of her team thus turning herself into a roasted chicken which looks and smells delicious.

Weekend Update

Last night Weekend Update presented one of its best outings since pairing Colin Jost and Michael Che together. The jokes were strong and the report is getting there. Plus, they brought out Leslie Jones and The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party.

Avengers News Report

You didn’t think that Chris Hemsworth would host SNL without getting at least one Avengers sketch in there, did you? The Avengers have just taken down Ultron and his robots and Thor is more than happy to celebrate the victory in front of the New York City news. Iron Man and the Hulk drop by before Captain America makes a serious statement that, in the face of victory, Thor can’t take seriously.

Porn Stars: Dolce & Gabbana

When you think about it, this current iteration of Saturday Night Live really doesn’t have all that many recurring sketches. However, one of their strongest bits are the “former” porn stars played by Vanessa Bayer and Cecily Strong, attempting to sell some form of upscale merchandising. Enter Chris Hemsworth as Dong Juan De Dark Hole and you have yourself a ridiculous and ab-filled commercial!

Did you all enjoy Chris Hemsworth’s turn as host of Saturday Night Live? How about the surprise appearance from Chris Cornell as he joined Zac Brown Band for “Heavy is the Head”? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

I am so glad that I didn’t miss this one because it was genuinely funny! Loved watching Chris act with a chicken!

i must agree with those who say ‘fuck you country restricted’. I like to follow Nerdist.com. but if you are going to use youtube videos, make sure we can all watch them, Dick.

    • Tom says:

Besides being a totally unreasonable request, let’s just assume for a minute that he did try to make sure all videos could be viewed everywhere.  What if there wasn’t a service that has no restrictions?  Just not post it at all?  How about you just move?  Dick.

    Fuck you country restrictions!

  4. casey says:

Pity Nerdist don’t make the video available to Australia too.

I like to call it the SNL Nymphomercials. They are by far the strongest sketches.

  6. Tmich12 says:

Weekend Update definitely hit a high point last night. It’s had its good jokes and bad jokes all season but I think last night it was genuinely funny overall. The former porn stars sketch is one of my favorites, so I’m glad they brought that back. Overall, I thought Chris did a great job and last night’s episode wasn’t bad.

  7. LE says:

The ladies of SNL are ruling this year.  Any Weekend update without a Bobby Moynihan character is always a win in my book.  I love the hosts who participate in everything and Hemsworth certainly did.  Well done and here’s hoping more Avengers show up to host as May 1 approaches.
