Hide all of your valuable belongings, folks: Sly Cooper is bringing his charm and burglary expertise to the big screen. The PlayStation Blog announced the animated film today, and dropped a two minute trailer to go along with it. Fans of the series will notice that Sly Cooper looks a bit different; however, whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to you to decide:
The movie will center around the Thievius Raccoonus, a book of family secrets that hail from Sly Cooper’s lineage, and the nefarious metal-plated owl, Clockwerk, and his evil plan to obtain the book in order to use it to destroy the Cooper family line forever. As seen in the trailer, Sly’s two lovable sidekicks Bentley and Murray will also be in the film, and, one can hope, will get a fair amount of screen time, as their characters are known to add quite a bit of comedic value to the games.
This marks another one of the big names in PlayStation branded platforming/adventure titles making the transition to the box office, the other one being Insomniac’s lovable duo of Ratchet and Clank. Both movies share the same animation teams, Rainmaker and Blockade Entertainment, while the direction part of Sly Cooper will be handled by Kevin Munroe, who’s best known for 2007’s TMNT film. Sly Cooper aims to steal hearts (and box office dollars) sometime in 2016 and will also be released in 3D.
