Skeletor is Feeling Pretty Epic in This Hilarious TV Commercial

Even back in the ’80s, Skeletor had a bit of an image problem on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Although Skeletor had a pretty wicked design as the show’s lead villain and a pretty kickass action figure, the animated series essentially treated He-Man’s big bad as a joke. Although more recent takes on Skeletor have played up his menacing side, his inescapable destiny seems to be in the realm of comedy.

A new TV ad in the United Kingdom has leaned into the comic prowess of Skeletor. This “Epic Skeletor” is dancing up a storm to the tune of Irene Cara’s Fame theme song. It’s actually a really terrific recreation of Skeletor’s classic appearance–he looks even better here than he did in the Masters of the Universe live-action film. But what truly makes this video so hilarious is the way that ordinary people respond to Skeletor’s gyrating motions. Some of them even join in on the fun.

Along the way, Skeletor even picks up a new henchman in the form of a young boy, and he seemingly manages to piss off his old nemesis, He-Man. We even get a “By the Power of Greyskull!” from the fairly convincing He-Man lookalike, though his following line is just a tad sillier. The responding laugh from Skeletor was just perfect. Did someone get Alan Oppenheimer to reprise his signature vocal role from the animated series?

This seems like a very odd way to sell financial services, but we’re not going to argue with it. Epic Skeletor is epic.
