#SixSeasonsAndAMovie Lives: COMMUNITY is Coming to Yahoo!

Back at the beginning of May, Human Beings across the globe realized that they might indeed be living in the darkest timeline as NBC announced they had cancelled fan favorite series Community, dashing its hopes of living up to its ubiquitous #SixSeasonsAndAMovie hashtag campaign. Rumors swirled that online outlets like Hulu would be reviving the series, but that turned out to be one giant dean-ssapointment. It seemed that all was lost for Community — until today. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that, this fall, Dan Harmon‘s little series that could will be coming to Yahoo Screen for 13 brand new episodes. Well, to Yahoo screen, we say this:

Dan Harmon will reprise his role as showrunner, joined by returning stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Ken Jeong, and Jim Rash. In addition, Gary Foster, Russ Krasnoff, and Chris McKenna will be back as executive producers. Of the show’s return, Harmon said, “I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo. I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”

McHale also sounded off on the news of the show’s phoenix-like emergence from the ashes of cancellation: ““The reports of our cancelation have been greatly exaggerated.” —Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). # SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now.”

Speaking as a massive fan of the series, this news comes as a tremendous, if unexpected relief. It’s kind of like your cool uncle faked his death and then surprised you by pulling up at your Little League championship game in his bitchin’ Camaro right as you catch a fly ball in right field. Not saying that’s what happened to me, but you get the picture. I could go on and on about what a smart move this is considering the show built its reputation and fan base thanks to a robust online fandom, but I think this GIF sums things up quite nicely.

  1. Where is your loving God now? this show died 3 years ago. Get other jobs.

  2. Kathryn says:

I am really intrigued with what Yahoo is doing business wise. I mean they bought tumblr and have done this, in my opinion smart, option of picking up community.

  3. Vince says:

I hope it gets more surreal.

  4. Amelia says:

I was having the most awful nightmare while taking a nap this afternoon and my sister wakes me up with the good news. I knew it I knew it! Community is back!! The show deserves this come back and fans deserves another season of this amazing comedy! Pop pop to everyone!! Now I can watch the last two episodes I was saving until knew if it would be cancelled or not.
My hopes for Jeff/Annie ship is still sailing!!

  5. I was working on trying to win the lottery so I could fund the Sixth Season 😉

  6. So Happy says:

    #SixSeasonsAndAMovie

  7. Should I have known there was a Yahoo Screen?  I feel like I should have know that….

  8. Warren says:

I hope we get John Oliver and Donald Glover.  But if we don’t…WE HAVE SEASON SIX!  THIS IS THE BEST!

  9. John Lindner says:

Bring back Donald Glover too… Please

    • Kevin says:

I think Donald (or Gambino as we probably should call him from now on) said in an interview that he doesn’t want to do it any more because it’s not something that he can have enough creative control over and he, in his own words, “only wants to make dope shit”, although he still thinks the show is amazing

      • twitter_SweetGeekling says:

This is my personal opinion and I have nothing but that interview to suggest this, but I think Season 4, aka The Gas Leak Year, is to blame for his change of heart.  All that talk about working for someone else, wanting to do his own thing… I think that was a product of the crappy decision to fire Harmon and leave the show in incapable hands.  🙁
        But… SIXSEASONSANDAMOVIE!!!!!
The only thing that could make me happier is if our Nerd King Chris Hardwick gets to be a guest star on one of those episodes!!

        • PopeScooby says:

Chris…stop making fake screen names to try get on Community. You’re better then that.

    • Dylan says:

At E3 this year Donald said in response to if we would see Troy Barnes again if the show was revived, “Yeah, Ubisoft should just do that for us. No, I mean, that actually would be kind of dope. I love that character. Who doesn’t? Who watches the show and doesn’t want — because Troy and Abed were a fun part of it. I mean, I always liked the Dean the most, personally, but I think the gang is really fun to see together. So yeah, I’d be down to do something.”
