Sink Your Teeth Into HANNIBAL’s Season 3 Scripts

It may be too late for Hannibal—despite ending on a literal cliffhanger—but it’s not too late for you to devour every last keystroke, punctuation mark, and parenthetical stage direction of the whole of the late NBC series’ third season. How is this? On the website for creator Bryan Fuller’s production company, Living Dead Guy Productions, you can read PDFs of the teleplays for just about all of the episodes in all of the seasons. Fuller himself tweeted it out…

This is great for many reasons: it really allows you to get inside the world of Hannibal by seeing what the subtext of everything was, perhaps even discovering some things you may have missed due to the direction or just not paying attention (it happens). You also get the opportunity to analyze each line like you’re in a literature class, letting all you aspiring TV writers see what an actual TV script looks like. One of the most difficult things to do when writing for TV is just finding a good and easily accessible example of such. Formatting is key, but everybody does it a bit differently and these are—according to the scripts themselves—the final draft of each of them, so they’re the closest you’ll ever get to a direct script-to-screen translation of Fuller’s work.

Even if Hannibal never finds another home, it’s great to know the people who made it still love it and respect and appreciate the fans enough to share a piece of the production with us for the low, low price of zero dollar bills.

Read some, and let us know which ones you enjoyed the best in the comments.
