Talking SINISTER 2 and Genre Mythology with the Cast and Crew

The boogyman is back! Sinister 2 is in theaters now and we were lucky enough to get the chance to sit down with stars James Ransone and Shannyn Sossamon as well as director Ciarán Foy and co-writer C. Robert Cargill. During the course of our chat, we were able to discuss what makes a good horror sequel, in addition to discussing the challenges and thrills of expanding genre mythology.

Scott Derrickson, the director of the first Sinister movie and co-writer of Sinister 2, also weighed in on these things, telling us of the highly anticipated sequel, “It is still family drama rooted in fear, so it does have a connection. I think it was important to bring Deputy So & So back but we didn’t feel like fans of the first Sinister audience members would be that interested in watching a story where you get to know more about his private life or his backstory or any of that. We felt like it was better to introduce a new character that he gets involved with and most importantly, we wanted to take a different point of view with the movie which is the point of view of the kids themselves…and some ways, we very simply liked the idea of taking a part of the first movie that happened but didn’t happen on camera and letting the audience see that which is how this evil seduction process occurs in the world of Bagul and the Kill Films.”
