Like many of you, we believe that there is a shortage of gigantic robots in the world, which makes today’s news of a world record setting Evangelion cause for celebration.
Last summer, ChinaJoy gaming expo revealed a huge Evangelion Unit-01 statue that was torn down and reassembled in a new location on Tuesday. Produced by Chinese smartphone game developer heitao, the original construction featured the superweapon Spear on Longinus next to the Unit-01 on the ground. But the new re-assembly has the Evangelion holding the spear upright.
The statue, by itself, maxed out around 13 meters in height, but with the Spear in hand, it is now measured at 24.8 meters in height. Next to a human being of six feet, this is a pretty staggering 81 foot achievement. Is that spear height cheating on the size? Not really, considering that the tallest building in the world competitions always include various antennae and other extensions.

The statue received the Guinness World Record on Tuesday, in the category of for the world’s largest Evangelion — which seems hyper specific but hey, whatever gets you in Guinness is good by us. The award certificate lists Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara as the statue’s owner, with cooperation from China Shanghai Character License Administrative Corporation.

A hat tip to our friends at Anime News Network for the story.
As of this week, the largest Evangelion statue in the world is in China, not Japan. https://t.co/pFtrtXyVyv pic.twitter.com/DberpcRQbr

What do you think? Does America need more giant robot statues, for fear that will fall behind in the arms race against the Angels? Or would something like this not blend in with a city like Chicago as appropriately? Is it fair that this statue sets a new world record by doubling up with a giant spear? Sound off in the comments to let us know.
