Shanghai Disneyland Details Include Plans for STAR WARS and Marvel

The original Disneyland in Anaheim, California is cozy. Its relatively small footprint is one of the things I like best about it. But I can’t deny the appeal of bigger spaces and what can be done with them, and it looks as though Disney is pulling out all the stops for Shanghai Disneyland. Disney CEO Bob Iger recently showed off the six themed lands planned for the new park, and they look quite impressive. The park will be paired with two hotels, an entertainment district called Disneytown, and gardens in Wishing Star Park. The scale model deserves all the oohs and aahs.

The themed lands include: Fantasyland, Treasure Cove (the first pirate-themed land in a Disney park), Adventure Isle (it looks stunning), Tomorrowland, Mickey Avenue, and Gardens of Imagination. Though the park will feature some familiar attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, there are new rides too. Tomorrowland will have the Tron Lightcycle Power Run, a coaster-style attraction, Treasure Cove has a different spin on Pirates of the Caribbean, and Adventure Isle will have a Tarzan stage show.

And let’s not forget two especially spectacular components of Shanghai Disneyland: the Star Wars Launch Bay and Marvel Universe. The Launch Bay will have items such as props and set pieces from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and themed characters will roam the area. The Marvel Universe is a little more interactive–guests can attend a briefing, meet Marvel heroes, and learn how to draw some of the characters. I’m excited.

Let’s watch some preview videos, shall we?
