Five years ago, the Tomb Raider reboot redefined Lara Croft‘s persona and paved the way for the new movie. Now, on the eve of the film’s release, Lara’s next video game has been revealed. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is coming later this year, and the first teaser trailer keeps Lara almost completely in darkness as an incredible solar eclipse takes place. It doesn’t give us much to go on, but the pyramid in the distance looks very enticing.
The teaser really doesn’t tell us much at all about the next chapter in Lara’s story, which will follow 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider. While the reboot showed fans Lara’s earliest adventure, it appears that she’s changed quite a bit since her ordeal on the island. This incarnation of Lara now has the experience to handle almost anything thrown her way. Additionally, the ending of the last game implied that Lara’s battle with the paramilitary organization known as Trinity is far from over, and she will probably still want answers about her father’s murder.
This brief footage will have to tide us over until April 27, when the first full trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be unveiled. Presumably, we will see more of the game at E3 as well. The official release date is September 14, and it will be available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
