Seth Rogen Will Star as Steve Wozniak Opposite Christian Bale’s Steve Jobs

And in today’s installment of “Man, I didn’t see that one coming!”… Funnyman Seth Rogen has just been cast as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in Sony Pictures’ as yet unnamed Steve Jobs biography, opposite Christian Bale as the late CEO. And, according to Variety, Jessica Chastain is also in talks to co-star in an “unspecified role” for director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who’s adapting Walter Isaacson’s biography Steve Jobs.

“Sorkin,” the trade paper reminds us, “has publicly said the movie will be divided into three long scenes, each taking place backstage before one of Apple’s famous product launches.” It’s an intriguing structure that could allow the film’s tone to vary in such a way as to accommodate Rogen, as famous for his sense of humor as Bale is for his lack thereof.

Rogen follows in the footsteps of his buddy – and fellow Judd Apatow alum — Jonah Hill, who’s made a highly successful transition from comedic to dramatic roles in films like Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street. But those who scoff at Rogen’s effort to broaden his range should take note that despite his good-natured, pot-smoking everyman persona, Rogen has actually already portrayed several very different characters on screen, including a millionaire playboy turned superhero (in The Green Hornet), a praying mantis (in the Kung Fu Panda movies), and even Seth Rogen himself (in This Is the End). Of course his next film will find him tackling his biggest challenge, when he plays a novice hit man recruited by the CIA to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un in The Interview (pictured above, and due out on December 25th).

What do you think of Rogen’s casting as Wozniak? Does he have what it takes to share the screen with Christian Bale? Let us know in the comments below.

Well that will totally not allow me to suspend my disbelief. Rogan as Woz? Rogan might be able to design a bong, but I can’t believe he could design a computer.
