Sego’s Video for “Micky Macali” is a Levitating House Party

New Year’s Eve is closer than you think—you’ve probably already organized your favorite songs of the year into a neat li’l playlist to play loud as we ease into 2016, but that doesn’t mean there is no room for late-in-the-year submissions. And Sego’s “Micky Macali” is most certainly worth your time.

The Utah-bred art punk duo, comprised of Spencer P. and Thomas C. (for you and me), sound like they were reared on mid-2000s disco punk; their witty lyrics and a general temperament a nod to DFA Records and James Murphy’s eclectic tastes. The track “Micky Macali” is solid proof of this: the spoken-word hypotheticals, the stream-of-consciousness posturing are all part of the slacker allure.

And this is to say nothing of the very rad music video which begins on a strong note with a homemade keytar (read: keyboard duct taped to guitar), and evolved into a stop motion house party featuring levitation, antiquated technologies, spooky red rooms, and both band members’ faces xeroxed onto popsicle sticks. You know, the normal qualifications for a house party in 2015. The video was directed Will Kindrick, and according to Spencer, is a a brash, lo-fi, upbeat interpretation of enjoyment. Definitely getting those vibes from this one and can’t wait to work this into a mix in short order.

Did you dig Sego’s song? Are you inspired to shoot your own stop motion video featuring your face on tongue-depressors? What tracks do you plan on blasting during your new year’s eve shindig? Let us know in the comments!
